I am very much an online person. A product of where I lived and the work I have done over the years. Plus my own ongoing curiosity for new technology. But when you go to a smaller town, like Arrowtown, the offline world kicks in again. Of course most people are online but a lot of business is done offline by networking and showing your face.
Walk-in
Last week I decided to introduce myself to other local businesses such as hotels and shops via an unsolicited 'walk-in' and leave my business cards behind. That worked wonders. Everyone is supportive of other small businesses and why wouldn't they?
Flat white
However, the best reception I got was from the local coffeeshop in town. Apart from making the best soy flat white they are the place where my potential clients are buying their (daily) coffee. I found out because my cards are flying out of their doors and as a consequence enquiries for my classes are flying in. There you go, proof that Pilates goes really well with good coffee.
